New Delhi, September 19, 2025: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) commissioned its latest asset, ICGS Adamya, at Paradip Port today, marking a significant boost to India’s coastal security. The ceremony was presided over by Shri Satyajit Mohanty, IRS, Joint Secretary (AF & Policy), Ministry of Defence, in the presence of Inspector General Yoginder Dhaka, TM, CoS Headquarters Eastern Seaboard, along with senior dignitaries from the central and state government.

The 51-metre-long Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) is the first in a series of eight Adamya-class ships, designed and built indigenously by Goa Shipyard Limited with more than 60% local content. The commissioning reflects the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives, aimed at strengthening the country’s maritime security through indigenous defence manufacturing.

Adamya, meaning ‘indomitable’, represents the Indian Coast Guard’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding India’s maritime interests and ensuring safe, secure, and clean seas,” the ICG said in a statement.

Powered by two 3000 KW diesel engines, the 320-tonne vessel can achieve speeds up to 28 knots and has an endurance of 1,500 nautical miles. Notably, Adamya is the first ICG ship to be fitted with indigenously developed controllable pitch propellers (CPPs) and gearboxes, offering superior manoeuvrability and operational flexibility.

Its advanced features include a 30 mm CRN 91 gun, two 12.7 mm stabilized remote-controlled machine guns, and state-of-the-art systems such as the Integrated Bridge System (IBS), Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), and Automated Power Management System (APMS) to enhance automation and operational efficiency.

ICGS Adamya will be based at Paradip, Odisha, under the operational control of the Commander, Coast Guard Region (North East). It will undertake surveillance, law enforcement, and search-and-rescue missions to safeguard India’s eastern seaboard.

Commanded by Commandant (JG) Anurag Pandey, the vessel has a complement of five officers and 34 personnel. Its induction is expected to significantly enhance the Coast Guard’s ability to perform multifarious maritime security tasks in the region.
