New Delhi, June 27, 2026: In a major crackdown on maritime drug trafficking, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) have jointly seized around 115 kilograms of cocaine worth an estimated ₹1,150 crore during an intelligence-led operation off the Mundra coast in Gujarat.

The operation was carried out during the night of May 25–26 after ATS Gujarat shared specific intelligence regarding suspected narcotics smuggling activity in the Mundra anchorage area.

According to officials, Indian Coast Guard interceptor boats, carrying ATS personnel onboard, launched an extensive search operation near the anchorage. During surveillance, authorities observed suspicious activity aboard the container vessel MV Europe, anchored nearly five nautical miles off the Mundra coast, where several bags were allegedly thrown into the sea.

Responding swiftly despite low visibility and challenging night-time conditions, the joint team moved to the location and recovered five bags from the water.

Upon inspection, the bags were found to contain 115 packets of cocaine weighing approximately one kilogram each. The total contraband seized weighed around 115 kilograms. Preliminary assessments estimate the international market value of the narcotics at nearly ₹1,150 crore.

Officials said the vessel has since been escorted to port for further investigation. A joint probe involving the Indian Coast Guard, ATS Gujarat and other agencies is currently underway to determine the origin and intended destination of the narcotics consignment.

Authorities described the operation as a significant success in the ongoing fight against maritime narcotics smuggling. The seizure also marks the fifteenth successful anti-drug operation jointly conducted by the Indian Coast Guard and ATS Gujarat over the past five years.

The agencies said the operation underscores growing inter-agency coordination aimed at strengthening coastal security and advancing the national campaign for a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” (Drug-Free India).
