New Delhi, June 6, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lauded the hoisting of the national flag over the Chenab Rail Bridge, calling it a proud moment for the nation and a symbol of India’s engineering prowess in overcoming extreme challenges.
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister wrote, “The Tricolour flies high over the Chenab Rail Bridge! It’s a feeling of immense pride that this bridge seamlessly blends ambition with execution, reflecting India’s growing capability to build futuristic infrastructure in the most challenging terrains.”*
The Chenab Rail Bridge, which spans the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir, is the world’s highest railway bridge, towering 359 meters above the riverbed—taller than the Eiffel Tower. It forms a critical part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link, designed to improve connectivity in the Himalayan region.
The successful installation of the tricolour atop this architectural wonder has not only underscored India’s infrastructural capabilities but also served as a morale booster for the nation, especially in areas with strategic and geographic significance.
Engineered by Indian Railways and constructed by Konkan Railway Corporation in collaboration with several Indian and international firms, the Chenab Bridge is considered a milestone in modern rail engineering. Its completion marks a major step in integrating the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the Indian railway network.
The Prime Minister’s statement reflects the government’s broader focus on developing high-impact infrastructure projects in remote and difficult terrains, aligned with the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).
