Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made it clear that he’s still open to signing the US-Ukraine minerals deal, despite a tense exchange with President Donald Trump just last week. Speaking at a press briefing in London, Zelensky confirmed that he’s ready to negotiate with the United States, even after their heated debate. He emphasized that if America calls him back for the deal, he’s ready to return to the White House.

Zelensky Reflects on the Fallout with Trump

Zelensky didn’t hold back in his assessment of the fallout from his argument with Trump. He stated that the disagreement didn’t benefit Ukraine or the US, but instead gave Russian President Vladimir Putin an advantage.

“If I am called for the mineral deal, I will go back to the White House,” Zelensky said firmly, making it clear he’s still willing to move forward with the agreement despite the setbacks.

The Ukrainian president spoke during the Defence Summit in London, where he met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron. The summit discussed Europe’s security challenges, and Zelensky took the chance to stress Ukraine’s ongoing need for international support in its war against Russia.

Security Guarantees Remain a Dealbreaker

A central issue for Zelensky remains the demand for a security guarantee from the US. He made it clear that Ukraine’s safety needs to be assured before any deal is signed, given the ongoing conflict with Russia. He hopes both sides can come to an agreement on this key point, which would unlock the deal.

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine’s voice must be heard in these talks and that the international community must recognize Russia’s role as the aggressor in the war. “Our partners need to remember who is the aggressor in this war,” he stated, reinforcing that Ukraine has been under direct attack from Russia for far too long.

Zelensky Thanks America for Support

In a personal video shared on social media, Zelensky reminded the world of Ukraine’s deep gratitude toward America. “We understand the importance of America. Not a single day has passed when we have not been grateful to America,” he said, showing appreciation for the vital support the US has provided during the ongoing conflict.

Zelensky highlighted that the need for security guarantees isn’t just Ukraine’s issue but one that affects all of Europe. “This is the situation of the whole of Europe,” he emphasized, stressing that Ukraine’s stability is integral to European peace and security.

Navigating Tensions with Trump and US-Ukraine Relations

Despite the tension that arose from his February 28 meeting with Trump, Zelensky remained optimistic about the future of US-Ukraine relations. While his original purpose in visiting the US was to finalize the minerals deal, the meeting with Trump quickly turned into an argument, and Zelensky ended up leaving the US without signing the agreement. Instead, he flew to London to meet with European leaders.

When asked how he plans to repair relations after the disagreement, Zelensky was clear: the US-Ukraine relationship will continue. He pointed out that if Ukraine were to stop receiving aid from America, it would only benefit Russia. “If Ukraine stops receiving help from America, then only Russia will benefit from it,” he warned, showing just how important continued US support is for Ukraine’s defense.

Ukraine’s Stand on Russian Occupation and the Long Road Ahead

In a separate statement on Sunday, Zelensky made it clear that Ukraine will not recognize any territory occupied by Russia. “We will not recognize any Ukrainian territory occupied by Russia,” he declared, emphasizing that Ukraine’s land and freedom are not for sale. He pointed out that Ukraine is paying a heavy price for its sovereignty, and the war with Russia shows no signs of ending anytime soon.

“The road to peace is long and difficult,” Zelensky admitted, acknowledging the challenging journey ahead. “Russia has imposed all this on us,” he said, underlining that despite the immense hardships, Ukraine will continue to fight for its land and independence.

Looking Ahead: A Path Forward

While the fallout from his argument with Trump has delayed the US-Ukraine minerals deal, Zelensky’s willingness to keep the conversation going signals hope for a resolution. His focus on securing a security guarantee for Ukraine and maintaining strong ties with the US and its allies shows his determination to protect his country’s future.

As Ukraine continues to defend itself against Russia’s aggression, the outcome of these ongoing negotiations could play a crucial role in shaping the country’s future, both politically and economically. Zelensky’s leadership remains pivotal in rallying the international community to support Ukraine’s sovereignty and security.
