New Delhi, April 16, 2026 — The Delhi Government has announced a major push to upgrade technical education, with plans to establish advanced laboratories across four Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the capital. The initiative, unveiled by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, aims to align vocational training with evolving industry demands and improve job prospects for young people.

According to the government, the move will introduce state-of-the-art facilities and modernize existing infrastructure, focusing on emerging sectors such as power electronics, electric vehicles (EVs), advanced welding, and virtual reality-based training.

A key component of the plan is the establishment of a dedicated Power Electronics Lab at ITI Jahangirpuri. The facility will provide hands-on training in industrial automation, renewable energy systems, and electrical control technologies. Equipped with modern tools such as programmable logic controllers and solar PV kits, the lab is expected to train hundreds of students annually and serve as a centre of excellence in power engineering.

Meanwhile, ITI Jail Road in Hari Nagar will see a comprehensive upgrade of its welding lab. The revamped facility will include advanced welding machines, simulation-based training systems, and modern fabrication tools. Officials say this upgrade will help trainees gain practical experience in industrial welding processes while improving safety awareness and precision skills.

In south Delhi, ITI Arab Ki Sarai will introduce cutting-edge virtual reality (VR) simulators for training in driving, welding, and automotive painting. The upgraded automotive labs will also feature modules on advanced vehicle technologies such as anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and airbags, enabling students to better understand and service modern vehicles.

Further strengthening the focus on sustainable technologies, an Electric Vehicle Lab will be set up at HJB ITI in Mayur Vihar. The lab will train students in battery management systems, EV motors, charging infrastructure, and diagnostics, preparing them for careers in the fast-growing clean mobility sector.

Speaking on the initiative, Chief Minister Gupta said the new labs would bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world industry requirements. She emphasized that the project is designed to enhance both employment and self-employment opportunities for trainees.

The initiative is also aligned with the Centre’s Skill India mission, which focuses on building a skilled and future-ready workforce. Officials believe the upgraded ITI network will play a crucial role in equipping Delhi’s youth with relevant technical expertise and supporting the city’s economic growth.

With hundreds of trainees expected to benefit across multiple trades, the government sees this as a significant step toward modernizing vocational education and strengthening India’s skill development ecosystem.
