New vessel to be stationed at Okha to strengthen maritime surveillance, search and rescue, and coastal security operations:
GOA, October 9, 2026: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) commissioned its indigenous Fast Patrol Vessel, ICGS Ajit, at Goa Shipyard Limited on Friday, marking a milestone in India’s domestic defence shipbuilding efforts and maritime security preparedness.
The commissioning ceremony was presided over by Dr. Sirish Choudhary, IDAS, Principal Integrated Financial Advisor (ICG).
ICGS Ajit will be stationed at Okha and is equipped with advanced weaponry and modern control systems to support a range of maritime security operations. The vessel is designed to undertake maritime surveillance, search and rescue (SAR), anti-smuggling missions, and marine pollution response operations.

The induction of the vessel is expected to strengthen the Indian Coast Guard’s operational capabilities along India’s coastline and in its maritime areas of responsibility. Its commissioning also underscores the country’s focus on indigenous defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
With its multi-role operational design, ICGS Ajit will contribute to the Coast Guard’s efforts to monitor maritime activity, respond to emergencies at sea, counter smuggling and assist in addressing marine pollution incidents.
The commissioning adds to India’s indigenous maritime capabilities, reflecting the growing role of domestic shipbuilding in supporting national coastal defence and maritime law enforcement.
