Eyes on Kejriwal’s strategy

Everyone’s eyes are on the strategy of Kejriwal, who came to power by showing dreams of honest politics. Kejriwal, who came into politics with the promise of making idealistic dreams a reality, has remained an invincible warrior in Delhi politics till now. His party is in power in Delhi as well as Punjab.

The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) historic victory in the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, winning 67 out of 70 seats, was not just a political triumph but also placed a heavy burden of public expectations on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his party. The intention to turn idealism into reality also dominated the 2020 assembly elections.

Delhi Elections : Will freebies be fruitful

Kejriwal could not turn idealistic politics into reality, however, he distributed freebies to keep the Delhi voters on his side. He did not hesitate in providing free electricity, water, free bus travel for women. Along with this, the Kejriwal government provided immediate and short-term employment opportunities, sometimes on the pretext of traffic control and sometimes during the Corona period. In this, most of the Kejriwal party workers got priority. Through these steps, Kejriwal created a collage of voters standing in his favour, through which power could be maintained.

However, in the third term, Kejriwal’s idealistic image kept getting one blow after another. Be it the Sheeshmahal scandal or the liquor policy scam or the assault on the party’s own MP Swati Maliwal by the Chief Minister’s personal secretary in the Chief Minister’s residence, these issues completely tarnished the party’s image and the image of the person who came to power to change the politics also became that of a common leader, who does not mind doing anything for power. Even Kejriwal himself had to go to jail along with almost all the prominent leaders of the party.

Delhi Elections : Not an easy election

Despite the culture of revdi and all the tricks to manage his vote bank, the upcoming Delhi Elections will not be easy for Kejriwal. Perhaps he has also realized this. Kejriwal has taken charge to turn this unfavourable wind in his favour. And on the lines of BJP, tickets of many veteran leaders have been cut and tickets have been given to those who have come from other parties.

Let us tell you that the voters of Purvanchal have played an important role in making Aam Aadmi Party win. Last time AAP had given tickets to 16 leaders from Purvanchal. On the other hand, BJP’s politics is still revolving around its old strategy i.e. Punjabis, Baniyas and Delhi rural areas. While Kejriwal is focusing on Punjabis, Baniyas and Delhi rural areas,  like BJP, on the other hand, he is also eyeing the people of Purvanchal and Uttarakhand.

Anti incumbency

The leaders of the BJP’s election campaign committee are meeting resident welfare societies. By visiting slums and unauthorised colonies, Kejriwal is in a way countering the BJP.

He is trying to give the message that only AAP is concerned about the common and poor voters of Delhi. While the BJP is aggressive on AAP regarding the Sheeshmahal and liquor policy, AAP is cornering the BJP on the issue of law and order.  Only the election results will tell which way the situation will turn in this changed environment.
