The electoral board has been laid in Delhi, we all know that the three major parties in the capital, BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party are trying their best. After the announcement of AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal to jump into the fray alone after Congress, it is now clear that a triangular contest is now certain in the assembly elections to be held in Delhi. Here let us tell you that Congress and AAP fought the 2024 Lok Sabha elections together and together they captured 43 percent of the votes. If we look at the previous elections held in Delhi, it is clear that while the vote share of AAP has increased rapidly in these elections, the vote share of Congress has registered a huge decline.

After the debut of Arvind Kejriwal in the electoral politics of Delhi, the vote bank of the Congress party saw a tremendous decline. In 2013, in its very first election, the Aam Aadmi Party had reduced the Congress to just 8 seats with a vote share of only 24.5 percent. Not only this, in the assembly elections held in 2015 and 2020, the vote share of the Congress was reduced to just 9.7 and 4.3 percent respectively.

Let us tell you that till 2008, BJP was considered the party of the upper caste and Congress was considered the party of the poor and Muslims, but after the arrival of AAP, there was a huge decline in the support of Congress among these communities. A look at the results of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections shows that out of a total of 70 assembly seats, BJP candidates were ahead in 52, but in the 2020 assembly elections held after that, the story changed completely and the Aam Aadmi Party won 62 seats and captured the power of Delhi once again with a huge majority. BJP was reduced to 8 seats and Congress could not even open its account. However, this time too Aam Aadmi Party is confident of its victory and this is the reason why the party is not in favour of alliance with Congress. An official of Aam Aadmi Party said on the condition of anonymity that alliance with Congress was done to prevent division of votes in Lok Sabha elections, but in the assembly elections we do not want Congress to regain its old vote bank by joining us.

Political pundits also believe that Aam Aadmi Party is in a strong position in Delhi and being a national party why would it share its political position with any other party. It is certain that despite AAP and Congress not being together, this election is going to be very difficult for BJP.
