The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Assam Rifles reaffirmed their strategic partnership as the 6th Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting concluded on 27th June at Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 4 in Kochi. The annual meeting brought together senior officials from both forces to enhance operational synergy and strengthen inter-service cooperation.
Formed under a formal affiliation signed on May 22, 2019, in Shillong, the collaboration between the ICG and Assam Rifles has grown through regular engagement in training, sports, and adventure-based initiatives. The JWG meeting continues to serve as a vital platform for both forces to align operational practices and expand mutual understanding.

This year’s discussions focused on improving interoperability, sharing best practices, and increasing cultural exchanges to boost institutional collaboration. Key issues were addressed to lay a stronger foundation for joint operations and humanitarian assistance in their respective areas of responsibility.
The outcomes of the 2025 meeting are expected to enhance the combined effectiveness of both forces in tackling emerging challenges along India’s borders and coastal zones.
The Indian Coast Guard described the meeting as a step forward in cementing a robust security and response framework through joint planning and execution with Assam Rifles.
