Kolkata, June 19, 2025 — In a major push to promote holistic wellness, the Geological Survey of India (GSI) is set to mark the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21 with 50 special events spread across 46 locations in the country. This year’s celebration aligns with the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” and is designed to foster physical, mental, and emotional well-being among GSI personnel and the public.
Organized under the Ministry of Mines, the initiative will include guided yoga sessions at GSI’s Central Headquarters in Kolkata, regional and state unit offices, 12 geo-heritage sites, six field drilling camps, and three training centres. Over 3,000 participants, including GSI employees, school students, and members of local communities, are expected to take part in these activities.

In addition, GSI will participate in the one-day countdown event for International Yoga Day on June 20 in Hyderabad. The event will feature a live yoga session led by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy.
By hosting these events, GSI aims to reinforce its commitment to health, well-being, and environmental consciousness. “This initiative highlights our dedication not only to geoscientific excellence but also to the holistic development of our people,” said a GSI spokesperson.
A Legacy of Scientific Excellence

With expertise in geoscientific mapping, mineral exploration, seismology, glaciology, and environmental studies, GSI plays a pivotal role in supporting national policies and disaster preparedness.
Headquartered in Kolkata, GSI operates through six regional offices and numerous state units across India. It continues to evolve as a hub of geoscientific knowledge, leveraging cutting-edge technologies, remote sensing, and spatial data to inform national development and commercial initiatives.
