New Delhi, August 25, 2025 – Amazon India has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to expand its flagship Project Aashray, an initiative aimed at supporting delivery partners with dedicated rest and refreshment facilities. Under this collaboration, 40 new Aashray centres will be established nationwide.

The first of these new centres was inaugurated today in Rohini, Delhi, by Yogendra Chandolia, Member of Parliament from Delhi North-West. The event was attended by Murali Krishna V Vadrevu, Executive Director (Non-Fuel Business), HPCL; Salim Memon, Director, Amazon Operations India; and Ashley de la Torre, Vice President, Amazon U.S. Transportation, Sustainability & Kuiper Public Policy.

With this expansion, Amazon now operates 65 Aashray centres across 13 cities, moving steadily towards its target of 100 centres by the end of 2025. The Delhi-NCR region alone has 24 operational shelters.

What the Centres Offer

Aashray centres are designed as safe and comfortable rest points for delivery associates, providing air-conditioned seating, clean drinking water, mobile charging stations, restrooms, and first-aid kits — free of cost. Since their launch in Q3 2024, the centres have seen a 70% increase in usage, highlighting their importance in India’s rapidly growing gig economy.

Leaders Speak

MP Yogendra Chandolia praised the initiative, stating:

“India’s digital commerce is expanding rapidly, and Project Aashray addresses the needs of delivery professionals who are the backbone of this ecosystem. Such innovative campaigns not only support workers’ welfare but also contribute to India’s economic growth agenda.”

Salim Memon of Amazon India added:

“Our delivery partners are at the heart of Amazon’s operations. These shelters provide them with essential support, especially in harsh weather and traffic conditions. Partnering with HPCL allows us to expand this network faster and ensure the well-being of gig workers powering India’s digital economy.”

HPCL’s Murali Krishna V Vadrevu emphasized the company’s role in transforming its fuel stations to host these shelters:

“This collaboration helps delivery partners find comfort during their long and demanding workdays, reaffirming our commitment to supporting gig workers across India.”

Amazon Gears Up for Festive Season

The expansion comes as Amazon ramps up preparations for India’s festive season. The company recently announced over 150,000 seasonal job opportunities across fulfilment centres, sortation hubs, and last-mile delivery operations in more than 400 cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and Lucknow.

In addition, Amazon has created employment for thousands of women associates and over 2,000 persons with disabilities across its network, underscoring its focus on inclusion and workforce diversity.
