New Delhi, April 25: A new study by Google in collaboration with Kantar has revealed that three out of four Indians are looking for a “daily growth collaborator” to help them enhance productivity, boost creativity, and improve communication in their everyday lives. Yet, the study also highlights that awareness and usage of generative AI tools in India remain at a nascent stage.

Surveying over 8,000 people across 18 Indian cities, the report uncovers a stark contrast between the high aspirations of Indians and the current level of familiarity with AI. Despite strong motivation to improve, 60% of respondents said they were unfamiliar with AI, and only 31% had tried a generative AI tool.

However, early adopters of Google’s Gemini platform paint a promising picture. An overwhelming 92% of Indian Gemini users reported feeling more confident, 93% said the tool increased their productivity, and 85% credited it with unlocking creativity. The impact appears especially significant among Gen Z, women, and students.

Indians Want More—but Face Daily Barriers

The study delves into the day-to-day hurdles Indians face. A majority expressed a desire to be more productive (72%), creative (77%), and articulate (73%). From managing personal tasks to exploring hobbies like cooking or travel planning, people often feel constrained by time pressure, creative blocks, or difficulty in expressing themselves.

These challenges are not limited to inconvenience. About 61% of respondents admitted to abandoning professional or creative pursuits because of such obstacles, while 68% struggle just to get started. A further 52% said the lack of guidance or skills holds them back.

Gemini: AI as a Collaborative Companion

Google’s Gemini platform is being positioned as more than just a tech tool—it’s being embraced as a personalized collaborator. The AI assistant’s new features aim to address real-life needs, from creating videos using just a text prompt to synthesizing complex information into conversational audio summaries.

Among its latest capabilities:

  • Veo 2 allows users to turn ideas into visually compelling, high-resolution videos.
  • Gemini Live enables real-time visual conversations via camera or screen sharing.
  • Canvas offers a collaborative space to brainstorm or code together interactively.
  • Deep Research synthesizes vast web information into comprehensive reports, showcasing its reasoning process.
  • Audio Overviews transform documents into engaging podcast-style discussions.

Complementing these is NotebookLM, a learning companion that supports study and content synthesis with features like concept mapping and source integration.

Voices from Google

Manish Gupta, Senior Director at Google DeepMind, emphasized the breakthrough nature of these tools: “Gemini represents our most advanced AI model to date, enabling entirely new ways to interact, create, and grow.”

Vice President of Marketing at Google India Shekar Khosla, , said, “Gemini is helping users feel more confident in their own capabilities. It’s a meaningful step toward delivering a truly personal AI assistant that supports people across languages, locations, and aspirations.”

Bridging the Gap Between Aspiration and Adoption

The report underscores a significant opportunity: a vast number of Indians are eager for digital solutions that empower them daily, yet many remain unaware of what’s possible. With its growing suite of features and proven user benefits, Google’s Gemini seems poised to play a central role in shaping how Indians harness AI for personal and professional growth.
