New Delhi, 28 January 2026 — A high-level delegation from the United Arab Emirates National Guard Command (UAE NGC) is on an official visit to India from 26 to 31 January 2026, aiming to strengthen training collaboration and capacity-building initiatives with the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).

The delegation is led by Brigadier Staff Khalid Obaid Thani Al Shamsi, Acting Commander of the Coast Guard Group, UAE. The visit focuses on enhancing professional exchanges and expanding cooperation in key maritime domains through structured engagement with Indian Coast Guard training establishments.

During the visit, Brigadier Al Shamsi paid a courtesy call on the Director General, Indian Coast Guard, in New Delhi. This was followed by a bilateral meeting co-chaired by the Deputy Director General (Operations and Coastal Security), ICG, and the Acting Commander of the UAE NGC. Discussions centred on strengthening institutional ties between the two maritime agencies, with particular emphasis on training cooperation, professional exchanges, and capacity-building initiatives across core Coast Guard functions.

As part of the programme, the UAE delegation is visiting Indian Coast Guard training facilities in Chennai, including the Regional Marine Pollution Response Centre (RMPRC) and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC). The visits are intended to familiarise the delegation with the ICG’s training infrastructure and curriculum, including specialised courses in Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Cooperation (OPRC), MRCC operations, and Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR). These courses are regularly conducted for personnel from friendly foreign countries.

The visit highlights the shared commitment of India and the UAE to translate the existing Memorandum of Understanding into tangible outcomes through structured training engagement and institutional collaboration. It also reinforces the growing maritime partnership between the two nations, contributing to enhanced maritime safety, security, and regional stability.
