Lauren Powell Jobs, the widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, has been given a Hindu name, ‘Kamala,’ by her guru Swami Kailashananda during her visit to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The billionaire philanthropist and businesswoman, who became a focal point at the world’s largest religious gathering, also took a holy dip in the Sangam.

Mahakumbh 2025: Humble, simple, and deeply respectful of Sanatani culture

Speaking to the media Mahant Ravindra Puri of Panchayati Akhara Shri Niranjani said, “She (Lauren) has been named ‘Kamala’ here. She is humble, simple, and deeply respectful of Sanatani culture.” Mahant Puri, who also serves as the President of the All India Akhara Parishad, emphasized that Lauren’s quest for spirituality brought her to the Kumbh. He added, “Despite being among the world’s wealthiest individuals, she exhibits no signs of ego or ostentation.”
Lauren Powell Jobs was seen wearing a yellow salwar suit and a Rudraksha mala in video footage but refrained from interacting with the media. Mahant Puri noted, “She is remarkably grounded. On Sunday, when invited to sit on the stage during an event, she chose to remain seated at the back.”
Mahakumbh 2025: Lauren has come to experience Sanatan
Regarding the purpose of her visit, Puri explained, “Lauren has come to experience Sanatan culture and meet saints, including her guru Swami Kailashananda. This is her first time at the Kumbh Mela, and she is greatly inspired by our traditions.”
Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Kailashanand of Niranjani Akhara also shared insights, saying, “Kamala is inquisitive about Sanatan Dharma and its teachings. She has numerous questions about spirituality and the role of a guru, which we are addressing during her stay.”
