New Delhi, January 29, 2026:
Amid heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures across the Kashmir Valley, General Manager of Northern Railway, Ashok Kumar Verma, on Thursday conducted an extensive inspection of the Srinagar–Katra rail section to review operational preparedness and ensure staff safety.

During the visit, Verma inspected key stations including Srinagar, Pampore, Anantnag and Qazigund, assessing passenger amenities and infrastructure to ensure commuter comfort during harsh winter conditions. He also reviewed ongoing maintenance and construction work on tunnels and bridges along the route.

Special attention was given to critical track components such as points, switches and turnouts to ensure their functionality despite freezing temperatures. Officials accompanying the General Manager briefed him on winter-specific maintenance measures being implemented to keep the section operational.

A major focus of the inspection was the welfare of ground staff and track maintainers working in extreme weather. Verma interacted with on-ground personnel and sought firsthand feedback on the challenges faced during winter maintenance.

“The safety and well-being of our ground staff, who work tirelessly in sub-zero temperatures, is paramount,” Verma said, directing officials to ensure immediate availability of winter equipment and safety gear for all personnel.

The General Manager also reviewed progress on other infrastructure projects in the region and instructed officers to adhere strictly to timelines, emphasizing that developmental works should not be affected by adverse weather conditions.
